There are several more options for decorating the Easter cake.

Preparing the powder yourself

In addition to the confectionery powder, which is made from hard glaze, a multi-colored coconut flakes, colored sugar, semolina and even millet. You can buy powder not only before Easter, but also at any other time. It is stored for a long time, and in a cool dry place, the excess can remain until the next year. Preparing the powder yourself is also not difficult. This will require food grade paint and base. At home, semolina is best, but of course, sugar powder will be tastier.

Egg dye gives bright and saturated colors. You need very little of it, so you can use the leftovers. But if vinegar has been added to the paint, it will not work for making powder. Semolina or sugar is placed in cold paint for a few seconds and dried on paper. After drying, large lumps can be broken into which cereals and sugar soaked in paint stick together.

Usually the colored powder is mixed, or it is already sold in mixed form. But coconut flakes, for example, are packaged in separate colors. You can decorate the cake in an original way if you apply the powder in strips or concentric circles. You can also cut out a stencil with XB letters and simple patterns and apply powder through the stencil, letters and patterns in one color, the background in another.

Traditionally, it is decorated with the letters "ХВ". This is an abbreviation for the Easter greeting "Christ is Risen!" Letters can be laid out with pieces of finely chopped fruit, raisins, dried apricots ... Used for inscriptions and candied fruits (usually flat and multi-colored). And the letters "ХВ" are molded from dough. And when the cake is ready, sprinkle it with powdered sugar, and highlight the letters with bright sprinkling (culinary beads, for example), chocolate.

Glaze. Decorating cakes with icing is a very common way to give them a festive, beautiful look. A glaze is prepared from egg white and sugar (or powdered sugar), which are thoroughly whipped until thick foam.

Icing for cake

Ingredients:
1-2 egg whites
0.5 cups powdered sugar
1 tbsp. a spoonful of lemon juice.

Preparation
The protein should be refrigerated. Beat it with a mixer. Start the process at the first speed, gradually increase it. To understand that whipping is enough, you can turn the bowl of protein upside down - the protein should not pour out. When the required consistency is reached, start gradually, in a teaspoon, add powdered sugar sifted through a sieve. Finish with lemon juice and beat for another 10 seconds. Apply the finished glaze to hot cakes - then it will fit snugly, and is unlikely to crumble. Another way to give additional "strength" to the glaze is to put the cakes for a minute in the oven heated to 100-120 ° C.

Glaze is a wonderful decoration in itself. However, you can add (sprinkle) nuts, dried fruits, grated chocolate, multi-colored confectionery beads to it. Again, you can lay out the letters "XB" from the fruit. And you can just write these letters with glaze. There are many options. Kulich is a holiday treat, so get creative! Often, yolk is applied to the finished cake to give it an appetizing shine and sprinkle with powdered sugar or bright sprinkles. A symbol of faith - a cross - is sculpted from the dough and glazed. Can be used for decoration (already on top of the glaze), for example, waffle flowers, flowers from culinary mastic.

Sugar Pastry for Flowers and Other Decorations

Ingredients:
250 g icing sugar
2 tsp powder gelatin,
6 tsp water,
1 tsp glucose.

Preparation
Sift the icing sugar. Pour it into a bowl. Take another bowl (small) and place the gelatin in it. Sprinkle it with water, let it swell for 2-3 minutes. Then place the bowl of gelatin in a water bath and dissolve, stirring gently. Immediately after dissolving the gelatin, pour in the glucose. The resulting liquid should be more or less transparent. Next, make a hole in the icing sugar and pour the mixture of gelatin and glucose into it. Stir well, using a knife, chopping movements. Then place the mastic in a plastic bag and the bag in an airtight container. Leave for 3-4 hours at room temperature... After that, you can sculpt flowers and other decorations from mastic.

Here's how to mold roses from mastic, for example. To begin with, using food coloring, tint the mastic in pink, green, scarlet, yellow and other colors. Leave some white mastic as well. Place the colored mastic pieces in a plastic bag to keep them soft and pliable. Use it in small portions.

From a small piece of mass, mold a "carrot" and place it on a table or board. After that, roll balls of the same size from the tinted mass - future rose petals. Mash the first ball with a teaspoon on a table dusted with powdered sugar, then use your hands to shape it into a petal. Make the petal thinner on one edge, thicker on the opposite. Then slightly moisten the lower part of the petal with water and wrap it around the "carrot", thereby making the ovary of the flower. From the second ball, mold the next petal. Moisten the bottom at the base of the petal again and screw it onto the workpiece so that the middle of the second petal covers the "seam" of the first petal. Glue the third petal and bend it from the middle to the side. So make 5-6 petals.

Let the finished flowers dry for 5-6 hours. The petals should be made as thin as possible towards the edges and thicker at the base! If an extra mass of glaze has formed on the bottom of the flower, it can be cut off with scissors.

Then you need to prepare the leaves for the flowers. Form "carrots" from 3-4 green balls (can be of different sizes). With two thumbs, press down the middle of the carrot and shape it into a leaf. Then with a knife in the center of the sheet, and then obliquely, apply veins. You can give the leaf any shape and bend it the way you like. Dry. When flowers and leaves are ready, they are collected in a bouquet. Attach from 2 to 3 leaves to one flower.

The Easter cake should be served on a large plate, on which painted eggs can be laid out around the perimeter (we will talk about them later). But there is another option: with fruit. To do this, lay out the kiwi with chamomile, and in the center place a mixture of nuts, prunes, fresh berries, chopped orange slices. On the resulting fruit base, place a cake decorated in the same style: fresh fruit over the glaze.

Easter glaze and decorative dusting

But they came up with modern way decorating Easter cakes, although in fact Easter glaze is the same sugar, only in the form of powder, with the addition of citric acid and starch (for better whipping and thickening). You need to add egg white to the glaze in powder form and beat with a mixer, whisk quickly and hardens better than just proteins with sugar.

Apply the icing to the tops of the cakes with a brush or spoon and wait a couple of minutes. Because if you sprinkle with sprinkling immediately, it will get wet and melt.

And in a few minutes, when the icing on the cakes dries up, but does not harden - do not miss it, the sprinkling will simply crumble from the frozen glaze!) - decorate with multi-colored sugar sprinkles.
And there are so many types of sprinkles - round, and long, and asterisks, and different colors! Entrust the work of sprinkling cakes with sprinkling to children - they really like this business! True, some of the sprinkling is eaten :)

But look at how else you can elegantly paint Easter cakes using ordinary glaze and natural dyes!

Candied fruits, sugar beads and sugar figurines

You can decorate Easter cakes not with sprinkles, but with multi-colored candied fruits. It looks very nice, but candied fruits are large and hard, therefore it is better not to give them to small children.

Pasches decorated with sugar mastic figurines also look very original and beautiful - for example, such cute chickens. But, to be honest, you can't chew these figures ...

And sugar beads, shiny, gold and silver - although they are very beautiful, I do not recommend taking them for decoration! They are good only to look at, but the taste is very hard and absolutely unbreakable. And even dangerous for babies. So we'd better take ...

Sugar pencils!

An ingenious invention !!! Well done, the pastry chef who invented them! The process of decorating baked goods - cakes, muffins, cookies - turns into creativity! You can draw whatever patterns you want, leaves, flowers, put specks - paint the paste like a paint! The set includes three pencils in different colors - red, green and yellow. It is very exciting to paint cakes with them with the whole family! Give the kids one cake for decoration, and let them paint as they want!

Dough decoration

Two types of dough decorations

Decorations are laid out on top of the cake before baking or glued to an already baked cake with raw protein. Decorations can be made from the same dough from which the cake is made, or from another, less amenable to deformation during baking. Braids are made of dough, flowers are made, letters and crosses are laid out.

If the cake is baked with decorations, grease the top with a beaten egg or vegetable oil... But this is optional. Then, after baking, the top of the cake can be poured with sugar syrup and even a fine powder can be applied over the syrup. Cover the gaps between the decorations with glaze, glue the nuts and candied fruits with squirrel.

For jewelry from butter dough:

  • 150 g flour,
  • 30 gr. margarine,
  • 1 tbsp. l. sour cream,
  • 20 gr. Sahara,
  • 1 egg.

Perhaps you will be quite satisfied that the jewelry will have a crispy golden crust and the same color as the whole cake. Then the decorations can be made from the same dough from which the cake is prepared. Well, if you still want them to contrast in color, take on board one more decoration tip, which can be made from yeast, but not pastry. Gently, the prepared decorations are laid out on the already dispersed dough, smeared with an egg suspension, and the cake is sent for baking.

Of course, there is no comrade in taste and color. I like working with a special dough more, then the decorations are more airy and graceful. Ready-made decorations are placed on the hot surface of the baked cake. Since they turn out to be very thin in comparison with jewelry made of yeast dough, then the decor attached to the Easter cake is enough to place in a hot oven for a few minutes to fix and create a light shade.

Simple dough- Flour, salt and water, knead dough and make decorations.

Cut out different flowers and leaves on the rolled dough:

For roses, you can use special recesses and collect them according to the type of mastic:

These are the blanks you can make while the cake fits:

Plungers with which you can make flowers and leaves. If you don't have any, it doesn't matter. A variety of things can be done with scissors. Below is a photo of a lump unleavened dough... It is kneaded in water with the addition of vegetable oil for elasticity.

These are the decorations I got using plungers.

In this photo, in addition to roses, I came up with bunch of grapes... I just formed small balls from the dough, imitating grapes.

The dough that was laid out in the mold was spaced and fit well. Be sure to grease the top with yolk. Now we can start decorating. Here we turn on the imagination and put the finished decorations on the dough. Now grease the decorations with protein. On this loaf, I made two bunches of grapes.

Yes, the yolk and white give a contrast to the base and decorations. When baked, the yolk gives Brown color and the protein remains light.

Decorated and in the oven at 160-170 degrees for 45-50 minutes.

I hope you will choose a piece of jewelry you like. To make your Easter cake attractive and tasty!

Kulich is one of the important symbols of Easter, a good tradition that marks the onset of the main Christian holiday. You can buy it anywhere, but it is much more interesting (and there is nothing complicated in this) to bake it yourself. And you can also decorate the cake yourself - it is in this matter that you can give free rein to your culinary and aesthetic imagination.

At our today's master class, we will prepare a delicate and aromatic fondant from milk, and then we will decorate the cake with this sweet mass. The finished fondant is simply poured onto the cooled cake and after a short time it freezes a little - just enough to preserve beautiful shape and taste.

The procedure for preparing milk fudge as an Easter cake decoration:

  1. First, sift the icing sugar through a sieve into an enamel bowl or other convenient container for mixing the mass.
  2. Milk for making fondant should be warmed up to 60 - 70 ° С - this should be done just before cooking.
  3. In the sifted powder, we begin to introduce milk in portions, about 0.5 tablespoons at a time. While adding milk, do not stop grinding the sweet mixture - until you get a thick, smooth and homogeneous mass... When the fudge acquires these qualities, as well as fluidity, stop adding milk.
  4. The finished milk fudge must be quickly applied to the cake. To do this, simply pour the mass from above - everything will spread over the top of the cake in the best way. How to decorate Easter cakes with mastic flowers - an interesting master class

Culinary mastic is a viscous plastic material for making "edible" decorative elements. So, mastic jewelry perfectly takes the desired shape and quickly hardens after processing by hand. As a result, real works of art are obtained - take at least the mastic cakes that are popular today, decorated with beautiful flowers, animal figurines and even characters of children's cartoons. Of course, you can buy ready-made pastry mastic at any grocery store. However, to decorate Easter cakes, it is better to cook mastic with your own hands - let the warmth of your hands remain in the product! We have selected an interesting master class on how to decorate Easter cakes with mastic flowers - beautiful and delicious roses. With the help of our tutorial, you will easily learn how to make stunning decorations for Easter cakes and other pastries.

We stock up on ingredients for a master class on decorating Easter cakes with mastic:

  • powdered sugar - 250 gr.
  • gelatin powder - 2 tsp.
  • water - 6 tsp.
  • glucose - 1 tsp.
  • food colors of different colors

A step-by-step description of the master class on how to decorate an Easter cake with mastic:

  1. Sift the icing sugar through a sieve into an enamel bowl. In another small container, set the gelatin to swell for 2 - 3 minutes, after adding water.
  2. We place the container with the swollen gelatin in a water bath and stir gently, waiting for complete dissolution. Pour glucose into the gelatin - as a result, the liquid acquires some transparency.
  3. In the sifted powder, we make a depression and pour the gelatin-glucose mixture there. Stir and place the mastic in a polyethylene bag, and then in an airtight container. After 3 - 4 hours, different decorations can be made from the mastic.
  4. To make mastic roses, you need to tint some of the main material in different colors - red, green, pink, yellow. Do not forget to leave some white mastic, which we will need for the master class. It is better to store colored mastic in a plastic bag, taking out small portions for work - this way the material will remain soft and plastic for a long time.
  5. We take a piece of mastic and sculpt a "carrot", which we put on the work surface. Then we "pinch off" portions of the colored mass and make identical balls - future rose petals. Sprinkle the table a little with powdered sugar and, with the help of a teaspoon, begin to knead the ball, giving it the shape of a petal. In this case, we make one end of the petal thinner and wider (top) than the other (bottom). Then the bottom of the petal should be moistened with water and wrapped around the "carrot" -base, forming the middle of the flower.

  7. Leave the finished mastic rose to dry for 5 - 6 hours. Then we roll balls from the green mastic and use our fingers to give each a leaf shape. To apply "streaks" we make shallow cuts with a knife and also leave to dry.

Like everything on the Easter table, the frosting on the coulis has its own meaning. It symbolizes the pure thoughts of people who break bread together, renewal and purification. Among the Slavs, the glaze carries the semantic load - symbolizing the beginning of a new life.

How to make frosting

The most popular and easy to prepare protein glaze. It is made with protein, powdered sugar, a drop of lemon and a pinch of vanilla. Sergei Knyazev notes that consistency is important in its preparation: “You don’t need to throw all the ingredients into the mixer at once: first, beat the whites to a strong foam, then add powdered sugar or sugar, and at the very end - citric acid and vanillin. In this case, the icing will not be so liquid, since the sugar firmly grabs the proteins, and it will be more convenient to grease the cake with it. If you do not have a special brush for applying glaze, you can simply dip the top of the cake into freshly made cream, then let it drain for a couple of seconds and leave to dry. "
