Corporation Kindzmarauli: plant, vineyards, liquor stores and many more interesting things. Kindzmarauli Corporation - one of the main wineries in Georgia Kindzmarauli factory Georgia on the map

"Kindzmarauli Corporation"- one of the largest wineries in the territory of Kakheti. Located in the very center of the town of Kvareli and is one of the main producers of the famous semi-sweet wine "Kindzmarauli". Now the plant owns 300 out of 400 hectares of the Kindzmarauli microzone, wine storage facilities, a wine shop, tasting rooms, a restaurant and even its own hotel in the center of Kvareli. The plant promoted itself well and, as a result, a dense stream of excursions was drawn here. Which, by the way, sometimes overloads the restaurant.

Administrative part of the winery

What is there

"Corporation Kindzmarauli" is a winery that operated back in Soviet times, but in 1993 it was bought into private ownership and modernized. The oldest buildings date back to 1533, and many of them can be seen and touched.

Immediately upon entering from Chavchavadze Street, you find yourself in the building where the shop and tasting tables are located. I advise you to pay close attention to the store - there are many different wines at prices that are sometimes twice lower than in Tbilisi, and this is taking into account the fact that everything is stored here according to the rules, and not in the conditions of the capital stores unknown to the world.

A walk through the production parts is also possible. You can touch the Italian cisserns, where grape juice turns into famous wine, and see the storage tanks, which are covered with a layer of foam for thermal insulation. The factory has its own guide who can explain what is used and how. The level of guides on the "Corporation" varies from year to year. At first there were two: funny and boring. Then the oarman was kicked out. Then they kicked out the boring one and recruited inexperienced girls. Then they were kicked out and experienced. In 2018, the guides were generally good.

In 2015, the plant expanded its representative part: now there are two large tasting rooms. Pour 4 - 5 types of wine, tell something. Once all this was conveniently combined with a restaurant, but then the flow of excursions overloaded the restaurant and it lost all meaning. It is not even clear if it works now.

Prices for tastings have changed several times over the history of the establishment, and may change again. But the "Corporation" focuses on the budgetary and mass consumers, so the tastings here are either free or the cheapest in Kakheti. For which they are loved by travel agencies.

What is produced there

The winery produces a lot of different wines, and due to its long existence, it even has 23-year-old cognacs in stock. There are about three types of cognacs:

"Kvareli", 5 years old, 13 GEL

"Eniseli", 17 years old, 33 GEL

"Gremi", 15 years old, 27 GEL

There is, of course, Kindzmarauli, Mukuzani, and Kvareli wine aged in oak barrels, and rarities like dry "Kindzmarauli" (13%, 22 GEL). From a rarity - there is a white semi-sweet wine "Kisi", which quite competes with the Rachin "Tvishi", and costs about 10 GEL. There is also a sweet wine rare for Georgia - this is "16x16" from Saperavi grapes. Aged in oak barrels for 6 months and the result is something absolutely fantastic. In addition to such serial wines, there are special, piece, for a lot of money.

It would be problematic to compose a full description of the assortment, therefore, no matter how trite it sounds, it is worth coming and seeing it with your own eyes.

At the same time, it seems that the administration is thinking more about marketing than about wine technology. The excursions lead well, they talk well, they decorated everything beautifully, but the wine at this winery is a good average level. It is comfortable for a tourist who loves bright fashionable packaging, but is indifferent to the quality of the product itself. If you have been to Europe and you have something to compare with, and you are not fond of packaging, then you will not be interested here. In addition, local wines are often sent to Russia, so you will not discover anything fundamentally new for yourself here.

As a result, tourists who are well versed in wine try not to bring it here. But for beginners, it's pretty good. Unless, of course, they are not embarrassed by being in a crowd.

About the name

The winery is called "Kindzmarauli Corporation" but many travel agencies in the programs call it "Kindzmarauli" either because of malicious intent or because of their stupidity. The winery itself, of course, is trying to pretend that the Kindzmarauli wine is just his, and nobody else's, but this is just a marketing ploy. With the same success, a Chinese company may open an iPhone store in the center of Moscow. The truth is that Kindzmarauli wine is made in general by all large wineries, and some make it better than Corporation, but tourists sometimes do not understand this, and go to Kvareli, believing that Kindzmarauli wine should be bought at the Kindzmarauli factory.

How to find

The main entrance to the winery is from Chavchavadze Street (building 55), it is clearly visible. Open from 09:00 to 18:00.

Address: Kvareli city, st. Chavchavadze, 55

Wine production in a corporation

Georgian variety of wine Kindzmarauli, which was the favorite drink of the chapter Soviet Union Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, first appeared in the now famous wine-growing region of Georgia, in Kakheti, in the town of Kindzmarauli, which gave the name to the famous Georgian wine. This village is spread out in the quiet of the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains in the Alazani Valley. The vineyard area is 120 hectares. This place has wonderful sandy soils that were formed here and are maintained due to constant flooding with clean river water. It is these unique natural conditions that created a magnificent terroir for the vineyards of Kindzmarauli wine.

The history of the Georgian wine Kindzmarauli begins in the middle of the last century. In 1942, the best winemakers in Georgia launched a line of a new drink - Kindzmarauli wine. Georgian wine was produced taking into account best traditions this edge. Selected recipes of local winemakers, compiled over the centuries-old history of the Georgian drink, are reflected in the wine, released for the first time in those years. The rules of the best winemaking have been developing for more than a century - now they have been able to invest their contribution in the formation and transformation of an actual drink.

It is worth mentioning amazing taste Kindzmarauli's fault being his distinctive feature... The famous Georgian wine gets its unique taste not only thanks to the unique production technology, but also due to the Saperavi grape variety, from which a wonderful drink is produced. The taste of Kindzmarauli wine is distinguished by velvety and delicate notes of cherry; as a rule, the sommelier is especially impressed by the pomegranate tones in the bouquet of taste and aroma of the drink. Professional winemakers attribute Georgian wine Kindzmarauli to a variety of red semi-sweet wines. The strength of the original drink usually does not exceed 12%.

To preserve the true taste and aromatic qualities of Kindzmarauli wine, as the preservation of the country's heritage, the Georgian government has taken a number of measures according to which Kindzmarauli wine can be produced in a strictly defined zone. This zone is the Kindzmaraul region, located in the Kvareli region of Kakheti.

True connoisseurs of Georgian wine Kindzmarauli and professional sommeliers believe that the drink should be drunk with grilled meat. But the drink is great in combination not only with meat dishes, but also as an addition to soft noble cheeses, fruit desserts, chicken and fish soups, hot and cold fish appetizers... Therefore, one should not be surprised that Kindzmarauli wine is always a welcome guest at a Georgian feast. In the production of Kindzmarauli wine, a special technique is used, developed for the noble wines of Kakheti. Because of this, the method was named Kakhetian. In the production of Georgian wine Kindzmarauli, the material for the wine is processed, and then placed in special bottles, in which it is aged. These bottles have a conical shape and are proudly called qvevri - this was the name many years ago for vessels of a similar shape, in which wine was traditionally produced even before the appearance of the first wineries. The pitchers are buried up to the throat in the ground. The capacity of some vessels reaches 500 decaliters. The pitchers are buried in the ground to create a constant temperature of + 14 ° C. Despite the fact that this tradition of making a drink has long sunk into oblivion, it is nevertheless believed that real full-fledged Kindzmarauli wine can be obtained only with the help of such bottles. In them, as the old-timers say, it fully retains its distinctive properties and excellent taste characteristics. In 2012, the Kindzmarauli brand was recognized as the official property of Georgia.

The Kindzmarauli wine variety is known not only for its excellent aromatic and taste properties, but also for the fact that Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, "the father of all peoples" and concurrently the head of the Soviet Union, loved him. It is probably not worth talking about whether it was the most beloved drink of a politician, since there were also some wines, mainly produced in Georgia, which I.V. Stalin. Nevertheless, Kindzmarauli wine was brought to him specially from Georgia, where it was bought from local winemakers. It was in 1941 and there was no industrial production of Kindzmarauli wine yet. Therefore, they bought wine made according to home recipes in an artisanal way. The quality control of wine for Stalin was carried out by representatives of the NKVD.

In 2013, events took place in the world of winemaking that delighted all connoisseurs of good wine. The chief sanitary doctor of Russia, Gennady G. Onishchenko, lifted the embargo on the supply of Georgian wines to Russia. Gennady Grigorievich explained his decision by the fact that wines supplied to Russia from Georgia are currently reaching the level of proper quality. Thus, we will receive a double benefit: we will be able to enjoy the best natural vintage wines of Georgia and we will be able to be sure of their wonderful quality.

Kindzmarauli is one of the most famous Georgian wines. The drink obtained from Saperavi grapes has a semi-sweet taste unusual for Georgia. Against the background of the bulk of dry wines, Kindzmarauli stands out like a cherry on a cake. And the fans of the Chaif group have probably already noticed that this is exactly the wine that Vladimir Shakhrin poured into glasses.

It was interesting for us to learn more about the already beloved drink, so during the time we stopped at the winery, which bears the same name - Kindzmarauli.

Kindzmarauli Corporation is our second wine tour in Georgia, so there was something to compare with. Like on, there is a free guided tasting tour. For the most part, the program is the same: the guide tells about the history, about the technology of making wine and how great they are and how many awards they have received.

The plant began to operate back in the USSR, but in 1993 it passed into private ownership. Today, Kindzmarauli Corporation is one of the largest factories in Georgia. In addition to the wine of the same name, Makuzani, Kvareli, KiSi, 16/16 are also produced here, as well as cognac and chacha.

Our excursion began with a tasting, during which we learned:

  • About the grape varieties from which wine is made
  • How to identify a low-quality drink
  • What products are best to combine this or that variety of wine
  • How to drink a lot and prevent a hangover in the morning

After the tasting, we went back to production, where they told us about the technologies of making wine, showed how it is prepared, where it is aged and stored. It was interesting, but we did not learn anything fundamentally new. Almost everything is the same as at the Shumi plant. If this is your first winery in Kakheti, you should like the excursion, but if you already have something to compare with, do not build high expectations.

Excursion to Kindzmarauli winery

The guide may be busy with another group, in which case you will be asked to wait 15-30 minutes.

The tour is free and includes a tasting. The total duration of the sightseeing tour is about 30 minutes. You will be shown production, a cellar and some buildings that are historical monuments.

There is a liquor store on the territory of the corporation, where you can buy wine, cognac and chacha. The average cost of a bottle is 15 GEL.

I learned from the tour

  • The wine of the same grape, from year to year, can be different. On the taste qualities the drink is influenced by the weather conditions, the environment and the soil on which the plant was grown.
  • The period of natural fermentation of grapes is 12 - 20 days. The maximum possible degree of the finished drink will not exceed 13%.
  • Stronger wines are obtained through additional intervention: with the addition of sugar, yeast or cognac alcohol.
  • In Georgia, there is a variety of semi-sweet wine Kindzmarauli - one of the few semi-sweet wines that is obtained naturally. Fermentation is stopped by cooling, so the grapes are not fully fermented and retained their natural sweetness.
  • The wine ferments and is aged at a temperature of 12 - 17 degrees.
  • Most Georgian wines are aged either in qvevri (large earthenware vessels buried in the ground) or infused in oak barrels in the basement.
  • Red wine barrels are disposable, but white barrels can also be used to make cognac.
  • Chacha is made from grape cake left over from wine.
